Flushing the Well

How to Bring Heavy Sediment to the Surface

Water flow is critical in drilling a well. That goes for the pros as well as us folks that are trying to use PVC to hand drill a well.   This technique is particularly useful if you are using water from household spigots run through hoses to flush the cuttings up to the surface.  It gives the water flow a temporary boost that can prove useful.

By raising the pipe slowly and allowing it to fill with water, the driller can give cuttings an extra shove out of the hole when he forcefully pushes the drillpipe down.  It simulates, although temporarily, a much higher rate of water flow.  It can be very useful in both drilling and widening a hole.
